Hair Donation Guidelines and Form

Thank you for your interest in donating! Here is everything we require:

• 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length that can be donated. We are looking for length rather than thickness.
• Shorter donations and gray hair are accepted, but please beware they may not be used in our hairpieces. Instead, they will be sold to offset manufacturing costs for our organization.
• We cannot accept bleached hair. Colored hair is okay. (Highlights are normally done with bleach) If you are not sure if bleach was used, please reach out to your stylist and ask them!
• We always suggest going to someone you trust to cut your hair. It does not need to be a participating Locks of Love salon. We do not have a list of salons. You can also cut your hair yourself!
• Hair must be in a ponytail or braid (or multiple ponytails or braids) before it is cut (above the elastic band).
• Hair must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed in.
• Place the ponytail or braid inside of a plastic bag, and then inside of a manila or padded envelope.
• If you wish to receive an acknowledgement for your hair donation, please fill out the hair donation form, or write your name and email or mailing address on a full size separate sheet of paper and include inside the envelope. We cannot acknowledge donors who do not send their name and address according to these instructions.
• Please be aware it can take up to 90 days to receive an acknowledgement once we receive your donation.

Important: When mailing your donation, please make sure that you are sending it with adequate postage.

The U.S. Postal Service has notified Locks of Love that many donations are being sent without enough postage, and these packages will be returned to sender. To ensure adequate postage, please take your donation to your local post office.
