I just received my hairpiece in February. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata at about the age of 14. My family and I didn’t know what to do. We went to doctor after doctor after doctor, and that’s when I was told to go see a Children’s Mercy dermatologist.

I just received my second “Locks of Love” hairpiece in December and I cannot be more thankful. I have struggled with Alopecia since I was a little girl and was bullied in elementary school.

What is Alopecia?

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles of the scalp and body causing hair loss. Scientists have found that there are seven types of alopecia but the most common types are alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis.
