I just received my hairpiece in February. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata at about the age of 14. My family and I didn’t know what to do. We went to doctor after doctor after doctor, and that’s when I was told to go see a Children’s Mercy dermatologist.
I just received my second “Locks of Love” hairpiece in December and I cannot be more thankful. I have struggled with Alopecia since I was a little girl and was bullied in elementary school.
Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles of the scalp and body causing hair loss. Scientists have found that there are seven types of alopecia but the most common types are alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis.
After having Alopecia for 7 years now, I have become quite accustomed to life as being bald. I have learned to love this condition and embrace it’s unique perks.
Locks of Love is proud to announce that it’s Universal Application has been accepted by the Children’s Medical & Research Charities Federation.
At the age of three, my daughter, Clara, was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis. Over the years, she enjoyed wearing the hairpiece provided by Locks of Love when she decided to wear one.
